pain, have you ever consider it may be a state of mind?
cause i notice alot of times when people are unaware of their injury
they don't feel it, until they're aware of it
to a certain extent is pain all mental?

cause it takes a certain mentality to get over it
i've been sliced and whatnot
but to me the pain was mental cause i seemed to get over
the pain in some way or matter to some degree until
i could be tended to, and on the contrary if i was unaware of the existence of it i don't think it would of affected me much

to a certain degree i feel it's all mental until the injury is a real real fatal one
as in a bullet wound to the chest , or puncturing of an artery
tissues is sensitive, so even it you wanna imagine it or not
you're gonna feel some type of pain , due to the nerve damage

but for the fatal ones, can it all be mental as well?
is pain in general mental???

Well, pain is both physical and mental, since mental things are the result of physical things ultimately. But mostly it's just a part of subjective consciousness. How you react to a certain amount of pain is going to differ from person to person, so that part is mental and personal.

You must also consider that a small cut to you may trigger much less of a reaction within your brain than it would to say a small child. So to them the same size cut would actually hurt much worse subjectively.

I imagine it's possible to die without experiencing any pain at all, like if a nuke went off in your front yard, your body cease to exist faster than your nerves could even send an impulse, and they too would be gone.

I'm curious what pain comes from, in an ultimate sense of things... what makes a sensation pleasant or unpleasant? Poke your finger with a pen right now, you can feel it, but, what is that? I imagine its something tied into the intrinsic nature of existence, ts kind of like contemplating what a color is made out of, why does something look green or red?

can we please clarify something? 'state of mind'
it seems to me that all feelings are 'states' of mind.

so if you are wondering whether pain is a state of mind or not, you probably are thinking that not all feelings are a 'state of mind' (unless you thought pain was not a feeling).

so do you define state of mind as being, some sort of 'perspective' or something, that a person can chose to take?

I guess, hypothetically.. One would be able to master the art of no pain. But I don't see how. Like bahjayjay said, the mental is a result of the physical.

It would be pretty tough to ignore tens of thousands of nerve endings completely, wouldn't you think?

Physical Pain is all Neurobiology/Nociception.

1. Contact with stimulus.
2. Reception -- A nerve ending senses the stimulus.
3. Transmission -- A nerve sends the signal to the central nervous system.
4. Reception #2 -- The brain receives the information.

The feeling of Pain is all in the brain and does require perception of the stimulus to exist... if this statement were not true, then Anesthesiologists wouldn't be making $1,100 every time they knocked someone out.

Carry on.

Pain is real whether we react to it or not. Suffering however can be optional.

You know i just watched a video last night regarding this topic.

There were doctors performing full blown surgeries with patients using no anesthesia or meds.

One case involved a guy who came in with 3rd degree life threatening wounds, who was persuaded by the doc that he was feeling no pain and that the burns were "minor". The guy ended up leaving with treatable 2nd degree wounds.

Old vid but very interesting.

Its called Natural Mystery "Mind Over Body"

Pain is what has kept our race alive. If it wasn't for pain we would do things that harm us without knowing it. Cavemen touching fire cause it looks nice etc. We may dislike pain but we also must value it.
