Need input on how these are coming along @ 21 days.
    #11332604 - 10/27/09 06:11 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

Here is the deal. These jars are 21 days old. They were done by a newbie and were the first set of jars ever done. The newbie in question followed the PF Tek to the letter. Some of the jars turned out a little tight. Also, Some of the jars have a gap between the bottom side of the lid and the top layer of dry verm. It seems the sub shifted around during pressure cooking. So far no signs of contams. There was a bit of a scare over some metabolites about a week ago, but all seems well.

This newbie says he is going to do another set of jars asap. This time he is going to use less water content. After more reading it seems the mix may have been to wet. Is this what causes the sub mix to clump up? The newbie said that using 2 cups of verm to 1 cup of BRF and Water makes the mix feel to dry. What do you all think about this?

Anyway, here are some pics entitled "The best and worse of 21 days"

Do these jars have a chance? Are they a week or so away from birthing? Any tips, input, or other recommendations that may help the newbie would be greatly appreciated.

Here are the pics.

Thanks,

AHM99

I knew a guy once with almost the exact same issue (too wet) and his/her jars looked just like that.  IMO be patient as well.  In your newbie friends spare time he/she should play with other methods like wbs and lc. I've heard they're a good time filler. Lol it's fun to talk like this!......or so I was told once.

Wow...so these jars actually look ok? The newbie was afraid that they might end up being a wash. The newbie will wait a couple more weeks unless something changes. I am rooting for this guy. I am hoping as the myc reaches the tops parts of the jar it does not get jumped by any contams. At this stage would it be pretty hard for contams to hurt the myc? Is it less susceptible at the later stages?

Playing with other methods does sound like a good idea.

Thanks,

AHM99

A great Pink Floyd CD that the band it's self thinks is "Rubish". I disagree; Division Bell now that was Rubish!

Sorry, continue your shroom talk...
