Trying to find new MUD RPGS
    #11331080 - 10/27/09 01:41 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

If you're not familiar, MUD games are a multi-user world coded in C and all text, many based on Midgaard; Humans, Orcs etc.
I'm looking for a new MUD to play, if anyone on here is into one.  Looking for Level Based, PKILL Muds, Midgaard.

I was playing World of Phoenix, but it got boring because no one was ever on anymore.

Hmm, I wouldn't pay to play MUD, but just for novelty purposes... what MUD do you speak of?

Yeah, there's a lot of roleplaytards.

Some people get married for PvP reasons.. the rules of consent are dumb. But if you are married to someone, anyone your spouse has PvP consent with, you do too.

I play The Fallen version.. which is the same game but a different instance, no GMs, no PvP limits, no rules, no gay roleplayers

For muds i used to play Animud, Clandestine. For Roleplaying purposes.
Unfortanetly I haven't heard from the owner of Animud in a year. It's been down for awhile now.
Clandestine is pretty much dead.
I've been Mudding for almost 6 years now. Sad to see all my old homes dead. I've been looking for a new one off and on but none of it feels as homey as my first mud did.

I've tried about 100 different MUDs. Couldn't ever really get deep into any other ones.
Dragonrealms was my first one, started in 1996 in beta when it was free on AOL.
After a few years it became more popular and they migrated to the web and started charging $10 a month for it.
Because they could get away with it because it's worse than crack (seriously, people get more addicted to it than WoW)
I was one of the top players in the game, when my character died "permanently" and 5 years of progress went down the drain just like that.
I got pissed and played other MUDs and MMOs for a while. Tried all the free MUDs I could find, nothing could really come close to the fun and experience I got from DR.
It's a completely custom coded  world, unique maps, unique skill/advancing system, very unlike any other MUD I've played.
All the other MUDs I've tried are usually just a copy or a slight variant of the same generic game engine hundreds of other MUDs use.

So I went back to Dragonrealms and started over. I wasn't happy about the $15 a month thing, but looking at it realistically...
I get many hours of entertainment from it every week. It's bar none the best MUD I've ever tried,
So $15 a month is chump change when you consider the entertainment value you get from it.
Some people blow $15 in 10 minutes at a bar. Some go to the movies, I play MUDs and MMOs.
So I guess it depends how you look at it. However the average person cannot fathom paying for text-based game, which is understandable.

I absolutely love text based games!
I think the community makes the mud over anything else.
I still keep in touch with the people i used to mud with 6 years ago.
Even met most of them
If i had the money, i'd give that place a shot.

Found this almost scares me. The psychology behind muds.

I used to play Ansalon MUD a lot.  It's based on the fantasy series Dragonlance and has RP elements and also leveling elements.  Fairly small community (usually a steady 20 players or so on at a time) and I really got a lot of fun out of it.  I played on and off since I was about 11 years old until my early 20's.  I'm glad I finally broke my video game addiction, though, and can't chance going back.
