PC'd jars a few days ago, but got sick before I could...
    #11330139 - 10/27/09 10:19 AM (8 years, 27 days ago)

So I PC'd a few jars of grains on the 24th, or 25th. I got sick and was unable to inoculate the jars with tissue. I wanted to throw some Oyster cultures in there, but now I'm not sure what to do regarding the sterility of the jars.

I haven't opened the PC yet, so I'm assuming it's still sterile in there.

Should I just go ahead and knock-up the jars now, or PC for 20-30 minutes to be safe, or just start over?

Thanks all.

It's been what- 48 hours? And you are shooting oysters? I'd say that's ok. Especially since they've been in the PC.

the lids were on correct?  I think you're fine

if so, you should be fine..  I too have a set of jars waiting arrival of a syringe.  the jars are about 6 days old from when I PC'd them.

my thinking is:
people sell pre-steralized bags of grain.  I am sure they are not made after the order, even if they were there is still the mail transit time.

They are OK, sterilized but un-inoculated jars will last for a month or two

Great news. Not only were the lids on, but tyvek between the ring and lids, foil on top of each jar too, plus I haven't even taken the weight off of the cooker, let alone opened it.

I think the worst part of doing grains is waiting for them to cool down so I'm glad I don't have to redo.

Awesome.

Thanks everybody.

I like to sleep through that part, then wake up to sterile jars. It's like Christmas!

Yeah I know what you mean.

I usually get so horny for inoculation I just put the PC in a sink and fill the sink with cool water...

Never had a jar crack or anything, and the cooling process is only about 2 hours that way.

But first I wait until the pressure activated locking mechanism unlocks. Then to the sink.

I've left (accidentally or otherwise) sterilized jars sit out for months with no problems, other then drying out eventually.
