Don't worry about getting silica on your mushrooms...
Quote:
Silica gel is nearly harmless, and that's why you find it in food products. Silica, which is actually silicon dioxide (SiO2), is the same material found in quartz. The gel form contains millions of tiny pores that can adsorb and hold moisture -- it's essentially porous sand.
While the contents of a silica gel packet are basically harmless, it would be a rather unpleasant experience to attempt to consume the silica crystals. The sole job of these tiny desiccants is to adsorb moisture. If you emptied a packet of the stuff into your mouth, the moisture would be whisked away from the sides and roof of your mouth, your gums and tongue -- giving an entirely new and all-too-accurate meaning of the phrase "dry mouth." If silica gel did happen to make it past your mouth -- which is unlikely because you would probably be making every effort to spit it out -- you might suffer a few irritating side effects, such as:
Dry eyes An irritated, dry feeling in your throat Aggravated, dry mucous membranes and nasal cavity An upset stomach or stomach discomfort
fiji water contains silica..

http://www.fijiwater.com/FAQ.aspx
Quote:
FIJI Water is an artesian water which makes it distinct from other waters. FIJI Water's mineral composition and taste are the result of its source: an artesian aquifer on the islands of Fiji. The volcanic rock on the island acts as a natural filter for the water. FIJI Water filters through layers of this mineral-rich volcanic rock over hundreds of years gathering minerals like silica. The unique blend of these minerals is what leads to the distinct soft, smooth taste of FIJI Water. FIJI Water is an all natural water, bottled at the source, preserved and protected by its natural environment.
Silica is an essential trace mineral19,20,21 that influences bone formation and connective tissue development,22,23 and is thought to improve the thickness of skin, hair and nails.24 Silica may also help prevent osteoarthritis through its effects on cartilage composition.25 Research shows that silica can also help protect against Alzheimer's disease.26,27
The suggested daily intake for silica is 20-50 milligrams for adults. The good news: FIJI Water is rich in silica with 85 milligrams per liter. Drinking FIJI Water is an easy way to add silica to your balanced diet.

Hell, every time I get a runny nose I just snort a line of that shit and it dries me right out. It's WAAAAAYYYY better than waiting on the nurse to give me my meds.
Oh yeah, and gold tops are the best mushrooms EVER!!!!!!!!

The above may be true for the pure white food safe kind. The kind with blue or pink granules (cobaltous chloride) reads something more like this:
Quote:
Toxic. Risk of irreversible effects. May cause sensitization or allergic effects. May cause skin or eye irritation. Added to the ECHA Candidate List of Substances of Very High Concern for authorisation, (carcinogenic) 28.10.08.
Only collect the white kind.
