 Gymnpilus question

ok, so i've been finding a lot of mushrooms that look as if they should be in the gymnopilus genus but after spore printing i'm not so sure. depending on who's information you read, gymnopilus spore prints can be anywhere from bright yellow-orange to rusty orange or rust brown. based on the pics below, am i at least looking at the right genus?
   
the print is the same color as the rust on my jeep.

I have been finding very similar looking Gymnopilus growing in the last two days. They are all over the place, growing from decaying wood. My prints were more of an orange color.
They did not have a veil, I do not believe that all Gymnopilus have veils so wait for a T.I. to confirm.

northgahunt is right. Those might be Gymnopilus. Microscopic examination is needed to determine which species.

some of them had faint veil remnants which i failed to capture in those pics. But not all gyms have a veil or annulus zone, for example, liquiritiae (active) and penetrans (inactive). according to the audubon guide there are thirty some species of gym that display no veil.
the veil/cortina remnants are a little more visible in this shot

i thought pholiota typicaly had a scaley or shaggy looking stem? these are pretty smooth

ahh yes, good point. i remember mine being kinda smooth, but he scaleyness was still present. thanks, sorry if i seem misleading in any way. im just throwing out possibilties to help you identify. all in all i have good itentions my friend

Your mushrooms look very similar to the Gymnopilus sapineus I found a few days ago.

i have little knowledge of pholiota species, limited to what i have read in field guides as i have never found one myself (that i am aware of).
i'd much rather be given a possibility that ends up wrong than to miss the right answer because no one suggested it as a possibility. good intentions are and new ideas are always welcome. thank you

Not all Gyms have a veil, which in the case of Gymnopilus is more of a fibrillose zone. The monograph states, "The presence and behavior of a partial veil, or its absence, constitute important taxonomic characters in Gymnopilus." The subgenus Annulati has a "Veil forming a membranous to densely fibrillose, persistant annulus." Two other sections, both of which are characterized by spore size, include G. sapineus--which is what I think that one is.
