casing required for pan cyan?
    #11326103 - 10/26/09 07:28 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

hey all, 2 days after spawn to manure/verm/coir/gypsum mix my small casing (1 of many) is  100% colonized.

do pan cyans need a casing layer? is it optional like with cubes or does everyone use one?

i have potting soil + gypsum and verm for casing layer if i need one. no peat moss at the moment.

thanks!

thats what i though just couldnt find a yes or no. thanks! hopefully my mix will work ok, at about 0.25 inches thick pasturized.

while my small tray (very small 4 x 4 ") colonized almost overnight completleymy larger one (12x 4) is not done after 2 days. regardless of this obvious occurance im still very satisfied by the speed of these buggers. if only they could yield more.

thanks

I've fruited copes without a casing, but it does better with one.  Keep it thin.

Personally I wouldnt bother to try it, I got three shrooms off an uncased tray. You should get 30g off a cased 5X6 inch tray, minimum.

hey rr, do you think that fruiting pans without a casing and cloning the best fruit and going that way would make a strain that fruit normaly on uncased substrate ?

Perhaps.  I think the casing just makes it a bit more forgiving of bad technique.  If you'll maintain proper humidity and air exchange, copes aren't any harder to grow than cubes.  Wax paper works well with this species too.

ah yes i love wax paper, it saved a tub or two recentley.

i dont see how it could hurt to use both casing and the wax paper.

imm putting on the finally cooled down casing right now its made of:

2 parts dark potting soil with some perlite, 1 part cactus soil, sticks removed, 2 parts fine to med-fin verm, 1 part gypsum. al but they med-fin verm was sifted through a sieve to remove large particles.

i worry a little about using the potting soil but hopefully everything else will even it out.

after i put on 0.25" of casing ill put it away for a day or 2 then it will go in the fruiting chamber with wax paper.

god i hope i get soem fruits before haloween
