They have dogs trained to smell psilocybin bearing mushrooms, or just one strain of them like cubes, or what?

I have never heard of dogs being trained to smell magic fungi, only the attempts to use them in place of pigs for truffle hunting, which turned out not so hot iirc.

Anyone know anything about this? I'm just a dumb country boy; could use a little education... :FattyNoneck:

If they have dogs for them that's bad news. :boo:

yea I was unaware of the drug dog's ability to smell mushrooms. I suppose though it shouldn't be too surprising, mushrooms don't all smell alike.

i don't know if its just me but i think dogs are hyped up. to give the whole "idea" of the drug dog more credit...sure they do their job with certain drugs and im not saying drug dogs are bunk but i have heard that they are not as reliable as ppl say. imo these shrooms were probably found by officers and there was a dog there.

It's probable that the cops just used the dog to get access to the vehicle. I expect that 68kg is not easily hidden and the people were likely nervous.

Who knows, they might have been wet, in which case thats quiiite a bit less.  Just driving around in a pickup like that with them, I would'nt be suprised if he just picked those from a massive cow farm.

Just my hypothesis...

Dogs can't smell mushrooms.  If the article says so its a lie.  A lie in an article about psychedelic drugs... how original

They might have been wet shrooms.

Then this would only be 6.8 kg dried which is a more reasonable and growable amount

There's a reason why it's so common.

I've never grown or smelled an edible that smelled quite like cubes. I am unsure how other hallucinogenic mushrooms smell, but it is likely that dogs can tell the difference IMO.

dogs can CERTAINLY smell and differentiate mushrooms.

my parents raise and breed German Shepherds so i have been around many police dogs that were trained to sniff out the slightest differences in the smell of the fungus.

they can't smell psilocybin but stropharia mushrooms (the family in which cubensis are classed) are distinct in smell.

if German shepherds can smell them, imagine the dogs such as bloodhounds who are super sensitive even compared to most other dogs

Dogs can smell the difference between pretty much anything.  But dogs are not trained to smell mushrooms, lsd, or mescaline, among others, because they arent common and would be a waste of training. The dogs smell for the commons, pot, coke, opiates, etc...

its likely that ST is right and they just used the dog to get access.
