It should also be noted that 'old' presto and mirro pressure cookers were made in USA and high quality. It's only within the last ten years they've outsourced production to china and have become crap. RR
I have an all steel 16quart Presto model-7b from around 1965. made in wisconsin and very very heavy and sturdy. bought a new gasket and it works like new. very very good investment.

if your PC does that youre not using it right when the rocker starts moving fast turn the heat down so it barley moves and makes little noise
the PSI will still remain at 15

I'd save the $100 to spend on other stuff. As long as it sterilizes and holds the right pressure, who cares what name is on the outside? I know RR said that you'll spend the cost difference in replacing parts for the first five years, well, for how many years are you going to grow mushrooms? And is there empirical evidence that Prestos are inherently unreliable? Or is it the fact that it doesn't say "Made in the USA" on the box? It's not a lifetime hobby for me, and I don't use PCs otherwise, so I'll keep the $100. I don't feel that an AA does a $100 better job at sterilizing. YMMV.
You could also take that $100 savings and invest it in a smaller PC for small things like agar and what not.

Thanks blt for your point on that. I plan to do lots of canning for the many years to come also so I think I'm gonna make the upfront investment to get the long term benefits.

Doing lots of canning, eh? DEFINITELY stick with the AA. I never seen a steel canner only small PCs. Mine is a 70 year old Ball made just like an AA, and it's aluminum. You could go vintage, like I did and save some bucks, but it takes some work and you can't go wrong with either of those AAs. Just for shits and giggles because I love it and spent less than fifty, here it is, 18 quarts:

Lobster eh? [3.99/ lb. sometimes around here ] I'm assuming you just use it as a steamer, no pressure.
But yeah, cook a roast in an hour. Try sauerbraten.

For sure. I never had one before, but now I use it more often for cooking than mycology. It saves time and fuel.
