We have a basic pf tek that's idiot proof enough for noobs to get fucked up with their friends.

Mycologists on the other hand grow for the love of growing.  They want to experiment with various species, substrates, and fruiting environments. They'll move on to isolate strains, attempt hybridization, and in general treat cultivation as an artform, rather than a chore that must be performed as a means to an end.  They'll work twice as hard for a ten percent gain, just for the love of perfection.  These are the ones who will isolate strains, not the dumb fucks who treat mushrooms as a drug, or even worse, a pathogen, as if mushrooms cause disease.

People say that what we're all seeking is a meaning for life. I don't
think that's what we're really seeking. I think what we're seeking is an
experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely
physical plane will have resonances within our own innermost being and
reality, so we can actually feel the rapture of being alive.:flowerchild:

I stretched my ears for a few months, never got too large.

One thing about them that is insane, the smell! OMFG. They should bottle the grime that builds up around the spacer as like a torture device.

It smells so bad it's nearly enjoyable.

I don't know where you live but I've seen a lot of people with gauged ears have no trouble finding jobs unless they're above a 00 or something ridiculous like that. But then again, you can always get a job at Hot Topic!

But yeah, I took my gauges out years ago because so many people started doing it, I still have my other piercings though, I can just take them out while I'm working so it's all good.

If your gauges are holding you back, take them out?  Sometimes you just have to conform to the way everyone else is to get ahead.  On the other hand, if you took out your gauges, either they will grow back together (if the gauges were smaller) or they won't.  :goodluck:

On a side note, what's with all the angry people in this thread?!

The ear grime sure does stink though, it's just dead cells building up in between your lobe and the spacer.

I'm a professional Body Piercer, and it's not gaugeing your ears. Gauge is the unit of measurement of the jewelry. You have to stretch your ear to get the gauge in, but anyway. I have 1 3/16 ears, I know quite a few people that have large lobes and have jobs. Also if you're ever interested in closing them that can be done. Let me know I can point you to the right direction.

Yes it's SLANG just that, it's not the proper term however. Saying gauging to a piercer just makes yourself look retarded. It will get you laughed at, either when you leave or in your face. Either way call it what it is. YOU CAN'T VERB A NOUN!

Main Entry: 1gauge
Variant(s): also gage \ˈgāj\
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle English gauge, from Anglo-French
Date: 15th century

1 a : a measurement (as of linear dimension) according to some standard or system: as (1) : the distance between the rails of a railroad (2) : the size of a shotgun barrel's inner diameter nominally expressed as the number of lead balls each just fitting that diameter required to make a pound <a 12-gauge shotgun> (3) : the thickness of a thin material (as sheet metal or plastic film) (4) : the diameter of a slender object (as wire or a hypodermic needle) (5) : the fineness of a knitted fabric expressed by the number of loops per unit width b : dimensions, size c : measure 1 <surveys are a gauge of public sentiment>
2 : an instrument for or a means of measuring or testing: as a : an instrument for measuring a dimension or for testing mechanical accuracy b : an instrument with a graduated scale or dial for measuring or indicating quantity
3 : relative position of a ship with reference to another ship and the wind
4 : a function introduced into a field equation to produce a convenient form of the equation but having no observable physical consequences

Whenever someone asks me about gauging their ears, I don't laugh, that would make me look stupid if anything. I just tell them what size tapers they should go from and that's it. Many pierces use both terms so I don't really know what you're talking about.

I'm glad you went to whatever dictionary site you used then copy and pasted all of the definitions to prove that a slang definition wouldn't be in there.

Yeah know arguing on the internet is like winning a medal in the special Olympics, even if you win. You're still a retard, so in a way we're both right. Personally I try to educate the public. No high horse at all, most people I correct are glad I do so. It helps them find what their looking for easier. Of course doing it in a way thats non-egotistical. It all comes up to the person. In fact I myself at one time called it gauging until one day I was corrected about it. From a veteran of over 18 years in the industry. Which in all honesty I respect his opinion far more then I do someone on a internet forum. (not to be a dick, just stating facts)

This phrase is so old and overused it's not even funny anymore.

I'm not even arguing, I don't care what you call it but to say other people are wrong by using a slang term is just stupid. It doesn't really matter how long the person who "corrected" you was in the business for, especially since 18 years ago it wasn't as big a fad as it is nowadays so I could understand why he didn't understand today's slang.

Take them out when you go interview for jobs.

Why? at that size they can clearly see the holes in your ears, it's not the same as taking out a lip or nose ring lol.

Mine kind of squeeze shut after about 20 minutes and look pretty normal. You can barley see the hole when they are out.

on a more serious note, you could check out some companies that let you take customer service calls from home - there are a lot out there,  although I don't know any specific names.

freelance?
manual labor?

not sure what you're looking for.

Oh wow. Did he rip them when he stretched them? I let mine slowly adjust to larger gauges at a time. If you cut them or rip them they do have a harder time growing closed at all.

I'm pretty sure he did actually, he didn't mind the pain so he went from like a 16-8 and then from that to a 2 and then 0 to 00. That's probably why then lol.

My advice would be to just keep looking, you will find something eventually. You should have seen all of the applications I filled out back when my ears were at 2 1/4 inches
But unfortunately I can't say that it worked out, I simply went into work for myself and eventually took everything out.

I still stand by however that you sound retarded when used in that context.

I always find myself laughing when someone asks me "what size are your guages?"
Especially when I respond, "2 1/4 inches" and they ask again, "uhhh...what gauge is that?"

Damn 2 1/4, major props on reaching that! I feel weak, mines only 1 3/16, going to be 1 1/4 soon hopefully though. Slower the better though.

This website tells you what size you have.

00 gauge actually means 3/8

I cringe when I hear people use the term 'gauging'. I'm not that much of an asshole to correct them, but that's beside the point of this thread.

My ears have been over an inch since I was 15, so I feel your pain in the job search. A lot of jobs I took my plugs out and that was that, but the past 2 jobs I've been lucky and was allowed to keep them in. I'm the hardest working person you'll ever meet, and just because I have tattoos and stretched lobes doesn't mean Im a low life scum bag like a lot of people think about with people who have mods.

Thanks, but don't feel bad; I've taken mine out for the past year, yours are larger than mine now
But yeah, stretching is not something to rush, I've seen too many horrifying mistakes from people trying to be competitive and "gauge"() as quickly as possible.
Kids come into the shop sometimes thinking they are special because their lobes are now bigger than mine, then I stick my ring finger through my nose to reveal my 7/8" septum. Booya!

Yeah I can't count the times how many kids asked me how long it took to get this big. I tell them 5 years, they flip out then say. Dude it only took me 3 months to get to an inch and half. I look and they're lobes are all sorts of fucked up, blew out, and nasty! Hell I even had one kid come in with necrosis in his lobes. That was gross. 7/8 septum, damn a good friend of mine as 9/16 I thought that was big. You've got him beat, hell mines only a 2ga! I'm wondering if you're by chance on BME at all?
