That'd be a Cortinarius and I'm unsure of the clump.

So they are hypholoma sublateritium or capnoides? No chance of sulpher tuft hypholoma fasciculare? They appeared to be on dead hard wood not conifer so sublateritium? Are these worth going back for to pick to eat or clone? can they be cultivated ?The other is hydnum rapandum or umbilicatum?? Both edible and no chance of poison? Probally repandum because it was under an oak around its roots? These are great to eat right? Worth cloning?

Thanks!!

Depending on whether the were on hardwood or conifer.

I don't think so.

Not really, but you could I guess.

Probably.

The other Hydnum questions I'll leave for the others.

Your Hydnum is a "repandum" (a few things go by this name) and is still good to eat.
The Hypholoma is sublateritium.

The one that interest me is the clump (pics 3-4) It is a Hydnellum but not sure which one. If you still have it please cut it in half and photograph the flesh, taste it and smell it. Also what state did you collect it in?

Sorry i do not have it , i left it there. It was found in coastal new england under near pine and oak trees. Is the hypholoma good eating , worth cloning to cultivate? The hydnum will not be worth cloning because of mycorrhizal relationships with trees??

Thanks

That's OK, looking at it closer I can see that it's a old Hydnellum aurantiacum.

My opinion; No. But I don't think any mushroom is good eating...

just sauted up the hydnum. It was good, not my favorite , but the wife loved them.  Going to go back and pick the hypholoma and eat a few and get a clone.
