Mocking retarded beliefs
    #11324891 - 10/26/09 04:27 PM (8 years, 28 days ago)

No one has yet to give me a solid reason why other's nonsensical beliefs deserve respect and are off-limits to parody and satire. Why should stupidy and ignorance be coddled?

Of course, I am NOT talking about YOUR beliefs, but the other guys'. You know, the ones that you secretly snicker at.

Respect has to be earned, so no belief system get respect by default.  They should be tolerated however, in as much as they tolerate others.

Making fun of retarded belief systems is :awesome:

Because when it comes down to it nobody has all the answers in life, we all either have silly beliefs deep down inside, or we just admit that we have no fricken clue.  People that express their beliefs out in the open should be ready to stand up for them at any time.  I do not think you should hold back from expressing your ideas if somebody expresses theirs, but really we should all just admit that we have no fricken clue and stop holding on to these stupid beliefs in the first place.

I'll add that if you disagree with somebodies beliefs, instead of trying to point out why they are wrong, remind them that everybody has thier own beliefs, and we should focus on our common values (which are often times more important that individual beliefs).

While we may not be able to have supreme knowledge, belief systems that are self-contradictory or internally inconsistent are certainly false as a whole.

Well it just seems petty to me to get pleasure out of mocking them. I've had a girl tell me she was a vampire, then a few years later that she was a witch. I didn't respond with much more than "why do you think that?" as mocking it wouldn't really bring me or her anything.

That's an initial thought though. You can make the argument that stupid beliefs left unchecked can be harmful, and as such I support seperating church and state, voodoo and state etc. Beyond that though I dont understand why one would care which axioms uphold another's view of life.

OC's past thread on 'stupid beleifs deserving to be mocked'

http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/10163253

Was the 5 pages of response not enough last time?

Sounds like your the one wrestling with 'beleifs'...

If the intent to better your fellow man that is wrapped up in stupidity is there then I see no problems at all. But if what is said doesnt go beyond (implicit/explict enough) just jabs and insults its probably a waste of breath.

If/when you get locked up for believing that nature should not be illegal and yet the majority still believes God made all plants are to be used by man except for cannabis, shrooms and peyote, then will you still play budding psychologist and analyze your childhood to search for an answer?

We're all ignorant, it's not something one chooses, but more like a characteristic given at birth. Embracing my own ignorance seems to be the only way to expand my understanding; thinking I'm right about everything is a quick way for me to turn off my brain.

Its funny how the groups of people that mock other peoples beleifs, fail to see through their own rigid beleifs

Even the 'mocking' is still founded in the standpoint of an imaginary beleif system
Even the most materialistic persons beleifs are based in the same exact process of a thought controlled beleif syetem just as much as a hardcore spiritualists beleifs, both fail to see their beleifs are mere IMAGINATION

Funny how the debunkers imagination won't discuss this matter further

So much for an intelligent debate

More like berate others beleifs - then ignore any real reply that challenges your own beleifs

If it isn't a personalism and one is attacking the idea then yes. I think we are entitled to our own opinions on certain ideas and belief systems, however strong these opinions may be, sans personalism. If one doesn't enjoy another's ideas, they can ignore it.

I enjoy watching OC handle an onslaught of junk mail threads as much as the next guy, but if this after school special loses it's lesson of the day then it is going to get way too personal up in here.
