Molasses added to bulk substrates.

anyone have any success or even tried using molasses in a bulk or anything? Blackstrap or unsulfured type of molasses.
if you guys don't know, its a very very beneficial nutrient in the final stages of flowering for marijuana. due to to heavy amounts of potassium and carbohydrates along with many other secondary nutrients. It helps feed those beneficial bacteria in the soil allowing increased nutrient intake through the roots, even at 1tbs per gallon of water.
so i was wondering if it could be implemented to a bulk substrate that we pasteurize, at least feeding the essential beneficial bacteria and cooperatively working with the mycelial network. could there be any point?
and if anyone would think it would invite contams, im guessing not due to the fact it will only support good bacteria that ward off new molds or bad bacteria. I do know that molasses is added to compost beds towards the end. Also, it is added to commercial mushroom compost where mycelium to bolts through it.

It's a rich, complex food source, with minerals and vitamins and other goodies, so the mycelium should like that.
Give it a try. You might want to do some grain jars or agar plates first and look at how much to add. I suspect you won't need much, but there's no telling until you try the experiment.

you might want to try the "unsulfanated" type of malasses. its not refined as much. more nutrients

me if you have questions about lasers
Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Definitely worth trying. Also would work for LC, I think.

From 2005. It's an 'OK' supplement for woodchips or other substrates that will remain sterile in filter patch bags or similar during colonization. I wouldn't use it in any open bulk grows. RR

well im not so concerned about lc, but if it works thats great. im looking more for the protection of a bulk substrate. since with hydroponics, it promotes beneficial microbes.
maybe add it to a grain soak?
theres lots of nutrients in molasses. VERY HIGH in Potassium, Magnesium, Calcium and Iron

Molasses sounds far too nutritious as a bulk substrate. Too much sugar.
The reason manure and other (reasonably) low-nutrient substrates work is that our mushroom mycelium is able to recover and start colonizing faster than other molds can take hold. A bulk substrate with molasses added would probably get beaten down with trich.
Just my opinion.

^^^ molasses is what's left over after they take the sugar out of sugar cane.

But I'm guessing that the vast majority of calories in molasses still come from sugar. Right?

Oh, yeah. It's sweet to the taste. But it's not like dumping in pure sugar or karo wold be. And it's diverse, lots of different ingredients. But most of the sucrose has been removed. And I don't think anybody is talking about using very much, btw. Just a bit to boost things along.

blackstrap molasses is whats left after the third boil so there is actually very little sugar in it.. i think it will work great.

exactly.
Blackstrap molasses doesnt even have a sweet taste. its bitter. why would organic hydro growers use if it werent to work?

Mushrooms aren't plants, so this by itself is not really a useful argument.
