Lots of Camping: Help make my setup self-sufficient
    #11323827 - 10/26/09 01:47 PM (8 years, 6 months ago)

Alright, so I have had success with the BRF technique in the past. I know there are more productive techniques out there, but I'll get to those later as I learn more. For now, this works well.

I have run into trouble when leaving for the weekend though. I go camping most weekends, even in the winter, and would like to know whether it is possible to leave the setup unattended for up to 3 days.

What I have now is a large tupperware container, a heat lamp on a timer (my home is heated at night so they don't get too cold with the lamp off, they may get down to around 70 at night, and up to 80-85 in the middle of the day).

I have a humidifier and a fan, and holes in the container for airflow.

Do you forsee any problems with leaving them alone for a weekend here and there?

In the past, it so happened that I was going away while they were still in jars and so there were no problems.

I can't guarantee the weekends that I'm heading north will be between flushes.

Ideas?

-make some sort of cabinet and pipe a ultrasonic humidifer into it.  FAE is very important and an ultra will help with this.  or just go out and build a straight martha greenhouse

i would never leave a heat lamp unattended timer or not... this is how fires happen and people get busted.

With timers and a greenhouse, you can build a setup that can be left alone for a weekend. Watch out for spore eruptions.

cool mist would be a better way to go for a smaller setup. ultrasonic will put out way too much humidity, and you can leave a cool mist on 24/7(or timer) with no problems.

cool mist does the same if not better since you can run it continuously.

Thanks,

I don't have the money to buy a whole fancy setup at the moment, but you have given me some ideas:

Instead of the lamp, I could use a reptile heating pad that I have (it's not as warm as the heat lamp, but safe to leave on 24/7 unattended for a couple of days) in combination with a regular flourescent on a timer for light.

I usually don't have to do anything about humidity, it's fine on its own in combination with the fan (though I do check them about once a day, I hope it doesn't get too humid if I miss a couple of days), I'm primarily just worried about what will happen if I don't catch an abort in time or harvest in a timely manner.

What happens if I harvest a few prematurely so that none will be ready for harvest while I am away? Alternately, what happens if I leave them too long?

you would rather pick erly than later and how are you taking care of the fanning that is just as impotant as the misting
