out door patch advice wanted

hey guys, its been a long time since i have grown. this time i decided to take a different route. yesterday i found a dry pattie that was producing a few copes, i figured the reasoning behind the small flushes was do to the nutrients and food amount for the mushrooms. i took the pattie and brang it to my local woods, then i shreaded it(basically the whole pattie was mycelium). then i took some fresh dung and shreaded it too, mixed the spawn and substrate together, and packed it loosely, layed it on the ground and watered it. is there anything else i should do? has anyone ever done this with succes? and is there any flaws in my plan? any advice would be appreciated. thanks! - mattian

i have yet to do outdoor cubes, but i think you have to start it in the spring for best results, then the mycelium colonizes the substrate and during the hot summer months, it sits dormant, and when fall comes the temp is right for the fruits, i hope it works out for you, i am looking forward to next spring to try some outdoor cubes

if it has the chance of quickly drying out.. cover it up in something. Verm, dirt, whatever is available to you.. besides that, keep watering it. I do outdoor all the time, it usually fruits pretty quick, but if it ever dries out, it take s forever to recover.

well its cased in between fresh cow manure, but your saying i shoul cover it with dirt or something? everytime i find em growing off patties, the pattie is just hanging out in the open, sometimes grass around it, but usually its out inthe open. thanks for the advice, would leaves do it justice? and how long should i see results( on average)

I mean to cover the the stuff you want to colonize.. so yes, the manure. I have thrown grass, dirt, verm, wood mulch, leaves and more on mine.. as far as what nature does.. I cannot duplicate it, but I can say.. Keep it wet, covering it helps.

It's hard to fathom growing outdoors this time of year. I've already got over a foot of snow on the ground. RR

in my area.. I spray it every time I have a cigarette.. multiple times a day. Do what you can, but when I do it less, it dries out, and usually the bugs finish it off before it recovers.. since your in Fl. and it isnt raining right now, at all. water lots.

I hate ants.. and my bugs come up from the bottom.. I can get like 3 flushes before the sub is devoured. Yeah, you can pour water.. it will drain out fast enough to not water log the sub. I have a hose near by with a spray nozzle.. so I just pull the trigger throughout the day.
