Reishi grow

I've got 5 brf cakes (no sawdust) completely colonized; what would you suggest to do next?

Spawn to synthetic log?

would it just be sawdust and vermiculite? How would i pasterized?

i'm worried about everything going green on this, and thought about just drilling holes in a hardwood log, covering with, wax and wainting.

This is all proceding a shiitake grow ( i have 5 cakes [brf and sawdust] colonizing now), and any advice would help.

Well, it wouldn't be advisable to spawn it to holes in a log. Grain and the like will most likely contaminate that way.

I would suggest Grain to Wood transfers. Hardwood shavings or sawdust. Then move to logs if you wanna take that route.

Otherwise, I think you need to sterilize wood for invitro colonization.

There is a thread somewhere in here that a guy spawns to paseurized bran I believe. It is pretty cool.

Exactly what are you growing reishi or shiitake?

Either way i would spawn it to a synthetic log, knowing what you are growing will determine what you would put in the synthetic log.

Pasteurise in a hot water bath or using a 2% lime solution are options. the choice will  depend on what equipment you have available.

ya i would make a mycobag of sawdust and hardwood. just as posted above. Do you have a pressure cooker? you should sterilize if you can. 2-4 hours for a 6 pound bag of substrate.

I have cakes for both reishi and shiitake; the problem is that the reishi has no wood in it at all just regular brf.

what bags can i use? can i go get a gallon ziplock bag and put it in my pressure cooker for steriziation?

No ziplock bags

you need a mycobag. check out the venders lis. I'm  sure shroomery venders sell them. The bags are fairly inexpensive.
