need help on harvest strategy fore tub
    #11314681 - 10/24/09 08:30 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Now I've been doing a lot of reading & research here, and I know you should not open a double tub until picking the fruits, but hypothetically, what if there are some very large fruits that will open up soon, as well as pins still forming. If one waits for them all, these bigguns will obviously make a mess and turn all black, which I assume one would not want to happen. Should the tub be opened to harvest some as they're ready and leave the rest to grow, or what is the best strategy here?

It would be a small 6 qt double tub if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance.

This is what it would look like.

Let the big ones go until you can print them.
Let the rest go until veils start to open, then harvest the entire flush including aborts,
but leave the pins that will be your second flush.

Would the large ones also be good candidates for cloning to LC as well? That is another thing me buddie wants to try soon.

I'm not a huge fan of cloning to LC. I like Grain LC better. I think if you are going to clone, you should go to agar.
But if you want to try it, then sure- use a big one. You can print the cap and take a tissue sample of the stem of the same fruit.

After the first flush is picked, would you dunk the tray? And if I read correctly, would that be done by leaving it under running water for 3-4 hours. The pins will be OK with this, or am I way off base?

Most ppl will say dunk after the flush.  Its called dunk because most ppl dunk you can cover up your drain holes in your tub pour water in and let sit 3-4 hrs with a weight on top to keep it submerged.  If you do use running water and you can the pins will be fine

^^^ yep, the pins don't care. Just don't run the water hard enough to damage them, that's all. Not a problem with a trickle from a faucet.
