Habitat: In the woods, near the edge of a pasture. I did notice some pine bark in the mix as well as acorns and leaf matter that had mycelium on it, you can see some of this in the pics.

Pileus: Hygrophanous, some had very dark colored caps at maturity, some did not, some of the newer pins did not either.

Stipe: STURDY! Thick little things (thats what she said)......white, I did observer some brownish bruising, they went down into the soil fairly deep.

Gills/spore print: The gills are attached to the stipe, brownish spore print, you can see the color of the print on one of the stipes, near the apex.

Younger specimen

Younger specimen

You can see the pine bark, as well as leaf debris mixed in with the soil, on the base of the stipes.

Some younger specimens.

Note the spore color at the apex of the stipe.

Several specimens.

A collection of specimens.

I thought maybe an Agrocybe species.

That's what I'd call it.

Can anyone figure out what species?

I have been hunting this area for almost ten years and have never seen this species before, I know that that doesn't mean anything because spores travel, but still it was cool to find something I have never seen before in this area.

The area is a rather small area of woods and it produces just about all of the great edibles I like, such as morels, blewits, parasols, numerous edible boletus sp, 2 different species of oysters, ganoderma, chicken of the woods, hen of the woods, edible Amanita sp, and lions mane.

Its a great area to hunt.
