How Complete Must Substrate Growth Be Before I Can Move to Compost?
    #11319510 - 10/25/09 06:23 PM (7 years, 11 months ago)

I bought a couple kits from Homestead. Before you flame, this is my first grow, I have no shroom connections, and I live in CA where no site will ship spores to me.

Anyway they sent me a sterile rye bag into which I dropped a Q-tip of spores into and shook up. It has been oh maybe 2-3 weeks now and I was just curious if there was like a certain percentage of the rye that must turn white before I move it to the compost? Or can I move it now that it has a few to numerous white spots?

Thanks a lot.

:pm: me if you have questions about lasers

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Thanks for the reply, that sucks lol.

Anyway the bag was actually pretty clever, it was one sterile bag, but it was divided in the middle with a string and some tape on the outside, separating the rye from the spores.

It's the "EZ Gro" Kit from the Homestead Book Company for p. cubensis shrooms.

Oh and if you mean what strain, one is Columbian and one Amazonian Penis Envy.

Haha I don't know, I suppose because it's for "mushroom cultivation research", but I would think that would work for any spores, apparently not.

I was also going to make spore syringes from these guys and use these bags fromww.mushbox.com with them. Thoughts?

And really the rye has to be completely white?

Also, is there any point in just going ahead and trying to order some syringes? They're certainly cheap enough.

Oh, I think it just means the spores/strain came from the Amazon? I don't know, there's only 3 strains to pick from at Homestead and I read somewhere Penis Envy has a lot of aborts.

The thing is that penis envy is a mutation that have been isolated from I dunno what strain. Im pretty sure it have not been found in the wild so How this strain would come from amazone. Only possible thing is that its an hybrid between PE and amazonian but then again I never eared of it and I realy doubt that A site like this carry this sort of think
