Yeah, that rule was a cop-out by Diploid in place of him actually spending time moderating the forum.

That rule is in recognition of the newly arrived know-it-alls who show up like clockwork to tell everyone of their amazing and origianl stroke of philosophical genius that has nevertheless been posted about and debated to death in this forum a hundred times over the years, long before the know-it-all ever registered here.

It addresses the case of someone who's participated in all those threads cutting to the chase and telling the know-it-all to STFU and use the search function.

4) We need a smaller, less-intrusive government.

Let's work on finding a solid full-time moderator

I read this forum *every* day and handle every moderator notification I find in my in-box.

What more do you want, exactly? You seem a bit demanding for someone with 75 posts. Or are you recycling an old screen name?

My apologies Diploid, I realize now I am posting with an outdated sense of this forums moderation. I had been thinking of earlier this year after deCypher left, and that you were only filling in as temporary relief. Thinking on it this forum has been runnin' smooth for a bit, I probably just miss deCypher's posts; that wasn't intended as a cut at your moderation.

If you are here to stay then I'd have to say I still have no desire for this "Regulars" status. Rule #5 gives a little leg room for dealing with the newb flow of a public website about magical mushrooms, but sadly due to that exact nature there will always be crap posts, and the regulars and seniors of this here forum will simply have to take 'em for sport.
OC is already doing a fine job of it.

Mods here come and go a lot. The first thing new mods seem to do is change the name of the forum. I think it's time for another name change. j/k!

If you are here to stay then I'd have to say

I've been moderating PS&P for a few years now. It's a thankless job, but this place is important to me and I don't plan to go anywhere.

As for rule #5, well, I'm no dictator and the regulars here know that I'd rather rule by consensus than by fiat. I'm up for debating it.

Right on man, this is good to hear and I can empathize quite well. I enjoy your posts and moderating, I meant no harm and was under the wrong impression of where your native forumland lied. :smirk::peace:

As for the rule I don't see enough being gained from these statuses; post count (and sometimes donator bonus) is indicator of veterancy. Since their use isn't incredibly valuable, I'd rather not draw any unneeded lines in the sands of a philosophy forum.

I mean c'mon, it's philosophy. That guy isn't any more correct about the questions-with-unknowable-answers because of his post count on an internet forum, is he?

A status like that may encourage in-group vs. out-group mentalities. Not to mention it might encourage more useless posts by some, just to increase the post count to get the "title"..

I don't really mind when threads get repeated over and over again because I've usually stopped thinking about the idea presented in them until a similar thread gets created and now I've had time to shift my thinking and beliefs and can appreciate a new perspective on an old idea.

Do you agree with implementing this, Diploid? :undecided:

Really, in terms of computer coding, implementing this idea wouldn't be hard at all; we have a lot of people who are good at computer coding here at the Shroomery.

Should we start a new thread dedicated to debating this issue, or is this the thread that this debate should take place in? :undecided:

So these are the main reasons you're against an idea that some people want, and would be extremely easy to implement? :haha:

why p&s but not other forums?  what about pub regulars?  should they be identified as bartenders?

This idea is in recognition of rule #5 of this forum:

Shroomism said:
5) Long-time forum regulars will generally get a littler more discretion from the moderators than noobs. This is in recognition of their many contributions to the nature and character of this forum, and the many times they've had to deal with the noob who shows up with a new, mind-blowing concept that's actually an old rag we've deconstructed here a hundred times over the years. If you're new here, keep that in mind. Stick around and become a regular yourself!

Just erase rule #5. It would be much easier.

so everyone with this status will be able to use personalisms, like the select favored few are allowed to do so now, while the noobs get bashed by the condescending regulars while completely defenseless (which would also help to prevent them from becoming a regular, not to mention scaring noobs away).
