Physics Question.
    #11319253 - 10/25/09 05:32 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

This stumped me. Seems like an easy question though i just couldnt get it :sad:

Q: Someone standing on a down tilting inclined plane making an angle of 30 degrees with the horizontal throws a ball horizonatally with a velocity of 10m/s. How far down the plane will the ball strike the plane?!?!?!?

hmmm, thats a good one.  Try reorienting your coordinate system so that that surface of the plane lies along an axis.  Then you will have to take components of the initial velocity and gravity, but it may still be easier.

Yeah reorienting your axis is the way to go. Set it up so that the plane is on the x-axis, which means the thrown ball now has

Vx = V_ball * cos30
Vy = V_ball * sin30 - gt

depending on how tall the thrower of the ball is, you can solve for t by knowing how far it has to fall to reach the ground (i.e. dy = V_ball*t - 1/2gt^2)

The horizontal distance traveled then is dx = Vx*t
