The grain was soaked for 24 hours and then simmered for 30 mins.

Way too much. With a 24 hour soak, you may not need to simmer at all, just bring it to a boil.
You want your grains done al dente when you load them into the jars. You'll get much better results, try it.

You stated you had a 3/4 inch hole in the top of the jar ...

Way too big - your grain will dry out over time and may even promote fruiting in the jar.

You want two or three 1/8 in holes and tyvek outside of the jar- jar lid then tyvek then cap.

From the feedback I've gotten in this thread it seems like there is a lot of misinformation in Magash's 'Rye bitches RYE !!!' tek. (http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/4576865/fpart/1/vc/1). It states to soak for 24 hrs, simmer for 45, and make what looks like a ~3/4" hole in the jar lids.

Is there a better rye tek out there that has better instructions?

It's not really 'misinformation', it's just that the art has evolved somewhat.
Roger Rabbit's video on grain prep documents the basic version of what most of us do- soak, simmer, strain. There's a lot of ways to fine tune it to your style.

why are these jars a bust?  i see no issues with them they just might take some extra colonization time.  I have spawned jars less colonized than those to coir before and had no issues

OK, that's a relief. How much longer should I leave them to colonize before spawning? And when I go to spawn I would want to remove any uncolonized portion (if any), correct?

Wait until it is completely covered with mycelium, a few more days hopefully, and then break up all the mycelium in inside the jar (by shaking and hitting the jar on something that won't break it). Then spawn to your bulk substrate. Like he said, when spawning you can get away with using 90%+ colonized grain sometimes because you when you spawn it will continue colonized and take over before it can contam.

Thanks, will do. What's the consensus on orientation of the jars? Leave them on their side with as much uncolonized grain as possible facing up? Completely upside down? Right side up?

I leave mine right side up just to make sure they have proper GE. I don't know if laying on their side will hinder them. And after looking at the picture again, some look like they can be used as spawn now...unless you are going to case and directly fruit from the grain, I would break it up now and spawn it to bulk of some kind.

Alright. I will give them a few more days and keep you guys posted.
