Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

Yup I just got a 1/4 inch nail from the Home Depot and I hammer it into the jar lid, then turn the lid over and pound down the sharp points. Works great for me.

I use none. If you will your jars half way there is plenty of air in there. When you boil liquids the gases are driven out of solution. LC is similar to brewing beer, you add spores instead of yeast to a sugar solution. Any homebrewer knows you must aerate your wort (unfermented sugar solution) if it has been boiled, the oxygen is driven out of solution.

If you have no holes in your jar it means you can shake if VERY vigorously, this will aerate it a lot, it also breaks up the myc clouds resulting in more rapid growth.

If you have a filter which can get wet you are limited to mild swirling of the jar. So I feel you can get far greater aeration with no filter.

I have 2 self healing holes on all my jars, it allows you to put a filtered syringe in one and suck out with another.

i've had problem in the past using no hole, The jar was creating a vacum and couldn't suck up the myc into the syringue lol.

That's what the filtered syringe is for.

The filtered syringe is not essential. You can get by with just one self healing hole. If your jar is not too full then the vacuum effect is not as evident, if you are full to the brim it is a real problem.

Another trick would be to inject sterile water into the jar which offsets the LC you are going to suck out. Another is to hold a lighter up to the end of your empty syringe, now you can slowly suck in air which will be sterile, this can be injected into the LC jar which again should offset what you are going to suck out.

The other big advantage of no filter is that you can turn your jar upside down and let all the myc settle at the bottom, now you can stick the syringe in just at the bottom and such the myc dense LC from that bottom layer.

If I PC a sealed jar, I get a strong vacuum. It's canning, really. Are you talking about some non-PC method?

You can leave the cap loose and covered with tinfoil, and let it cool in the PC. I used to microwave my LCs, I would put them in a clear plastic bag and loosely tie it, microwave on high until boiling, and then reduce to defrost for 20-30mins, and let it cool in the microwave. The bag protects against contams been drawn in while cooling. The last LC I made was microwaved until boiling and the cap screwed on while hot, then I used the filtered syringe as it had a very strong vacuum.

I can make a single filtered syringe faster than a filtered jar cap, and that one filtered syringe means none of my jar lids need filters. No more worrying about wet filters, or knocked over LC jars, a wet filter is bad news, one soaked in LC is very bad news.

Interesting...
If I understand you correctly...
The second syringe is completely empty.
And you do not use an airport syringe to introduce oxygen.
