A Few Simple QUestions
    #11317520 - 10/25/09 12:24 PM (8 years, 1 month ago)

1) What do you guys usually use (besides a drill) to make the larger holes in your tubs that you stuff polyfill in.

2) does anyone think it's a bad idea to use holes stuffed with polyfill in an FC

1) You need a drill bit for drilling big holes.  Just head over to a hardware store if you need one.

2) Probably pointless/FAE inhibiting..

I've heard an interesting tek but haven't tried it.  Heat up a metal coffee can, top side down, on a burner until it's red hot.  Using oven mitts, remove the can and press against the side of your tub.  Presto! Instant large holes, perfectly formed.

oh trust me ive watched all the RR videos and trust them to be very accurate. but right now i have a mini verm casing that was in a really poorly built mini terrarium and trying to upgrade a little without having to buy a drill. coffee can seems dangerous but effective maybe i'll try that haha

When doing holes for something like my arm holes in my glovebox, I just used my soldering iron to gouge the outline and make it easier to go back over with my box cutter.

If you don't have a drill be imaginative. Sharp knives you don't mind blunting, lighters, etc.

Most people use polyfill, it is fine, unless you're doing a shotgun.

I'd say the coffee can idea sounds best. Trying to use a nail or something would just crack the container. You could heat up a knife and use that I suppose.

I recently used a tiny saw and a razor blade. It was a bitch.

I'm just thinking it would be impratical, stuffing all the tiny 1/4" or so holes (if that) with polyfill. It seems like polyfill is more for bulk grows/monotubs and their ilk.

actually i meant making 4 or so 2inch holes on each side of my shotgun FC and stuffing with polyfil. but i already made a bunch of tiny holes using the tip of scissors. came out clean and professional looking surprisingly.

Hmmm I'm interested to know if anyone has done this? I sat down with a lighter and an exacto blade and melt/cut out traced holes...

I do this with no rh problems you just have to fuck around with the polyfill to dial it in like a tub
