The man who was never born

One of my favourite outer limits episodes.
It's roughly around an hour of your time if you decide to watch it all.

At the end, try to imagine what an experience like that is like.
100% Pure Ego Death.

I seriously wish people who support this notion of "ego-death" would have the courage of their convictions and put a shotgun in their mouths and pull the trigger.

Why do that when you can take psychedelics?

that's just the dumbest thing i've heard anyone say. during an ego-death, you are still having an experience whereas with your grand idea, your stream-of-conscious seizes.

but idk, you should try it. :braindamage:

It takes the same amount of courage, to take a heroic dose of psychedelics intentionally, as it does to pull the trigger of the gun.

The only difference between the bullet in the brain and the chemical in the brain is,

one isn't selfish.

What is 'selfish' about killing yourself? What is selfish about killing your ego? Both are stupidly selfless.

Like I said, get a shotgun and finish the job properly else you are just dicking around like a selfless coward afraid to back up his convictions with action.

There is nothing 'selfish' about killing oneself. It is the complete antithesis of selfishness.

I'm way too selfish to ever commit suicide. But all you people who promote the idea of selflessness as a moral standard and 'ego-death' as a valid 'spiritual' quest, should have the courage of your convictions and blow the backs of your heads off as I suggested.

Well, I guess killing the ego would constitute as 'ego death'. But some biological imperatives are far stronger than others. It takes a hell of a lot for anyone to end tier life. It's not as simple as skipping this morning's breakfast.

BTW, am I the only one watching this damned movie?

i can already tell that this isn't the case for you, but most people have loved ones and responsibilities and to remove yourself from either of those is a selfish act.

Maybe if you are a completely alone and unloved in this world sure.
But normally, if a person kills themselves this will have a deep impact on their family and friends- you know, the people who loved them. Choosing to take your life is selfish just for that reason, you will cause others emotional turmoil and suffering without any care, for a perceived benefit to yourself.

I would think it would take a good amount of selfishness to kill yourself. afterall its you who ave driven yourself to the point of doing it.

plus its selfish because other people care about you
