cool psilocybe "FLATTIES" new pics
    #11315966 - 10/25/09 12:46 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

well i posted a pic of these flatties in the pnw active thread and not to many people took notice and some claimed they were something else other than a magic.
but one person who did take notice was alan, and he got a hold of workman.well i am sending some samples of these along with those cool horsefield ones i found the other day.
i know for sure it is a psilocybe because they are common here and i have done them, you pick them along with liberty caps.
they have all the features one needs to be a psilocybe, but its up in the air what exactly they are.could be a linoforman,or it could be just a wierd variation of semi which i doubt, or maybe even something new.

but here is some good pictures.this morning was amazing even though i only had 3 hours sleep! bloody field was bursting with psilocybes!!
well here they are, enjoy.

Clearly a Psilocybe.

They sort of remind me of these:

These pictures are better than the ones posted in the PNW thread. The old pics looked like Psathyrella, these look very Psilocybe.

As Beege said, more detailed pics would be appreciated. Maybe take some pictures of picked specimens lined up next to each other so we can see the profile.

They're almost certainly P. Strictipes in my experience (UK specimens), or at least what i've been calling P. Strictipes.
I've found that the larger specimens will flatten out completely at maturity. They also seem to have more of a tendency to attract fungus gnat larvae.
Where did you find them?

Not entirely true, according to Stamets "typically not sharply umbonate but may have a low umbo". The picture he provides shows small nipples.

It's like the Stropharia semiglobata that my field are filled with. Stamets says "occasionally may have an umbo" but in my area 95% has one.

That's exactly how I'd describe those in my area (Belgium).

Cool! They seem to be in great abundance. How does the potency compare to, say, semilanceata?

german kahuna, they do resemble those from that thread.except from what i can see the stems are quite a bit thicker on those ones.

blimey ,ya these pics are much better. i am glad you agree with me now.

now if they are strictipes that would still be cool because it seems there is not much info on these.stamets book has only one image and they dont look that different to semis in my mind in that image though.he describes the cap color as more of a greyish tone than brown like these.

here is a grey cap psilocybe from the same field, probably just a semi but the cap color says strictipe to me.but it does have a nipple.have a look.its definetly different than that flatties .

I think we're all aware that semi's often don't have a distinct umbo, so there's no reason to presume that Stricipes shouldn't have one!
