Storing petri dishes and incubation
    #11316885 - 10/25/09 08:14 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Hi all,

i made 40 petri dishes and wrapped them in parafilm and are currently stored at room temperature in my closed. I got a plastic container with 3 drawers and placed them in there. I noticed though that the lid of several dishes has small drops of water from the inside. Is this normal?

I also inoculate some with spore syringe cultures and spore syringe. These are stored in the closet as well. Room temperature around 20oC

Is this the correct way to go with this?

Thanks

You should store the dishes upside down (agar above) to avoid condensation

the droplets are condensation and sometimes can also be caused by pouring the agar when it is still too hot.

Another way to minimize condensation is: after pouring stack the dishes on top of each other and only the top one will cool too fast the ones beneath will have fewer droplets.

i normally store only slants in the frig, but i have stored plate. i just put them in a plastic container, and put them in one of the drawers of the frig. If you leave them at room temp for a rly along time the plate will probably just dry out or contam.
