WHAT HAPPENS WITH MYCOTOXINS FROM COMPOSTED MANURE?
    #11295995 - 10/21/09 10:06 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Microorganisms, good and bad ones are reproduced and multiplied in composted manure, which even after pasteurized are likely to leave mycotoxins in it. Most of those microorganisms die. That's a fact. But what happens to those harmful mycotoxins in this substrate? are they depleted somehow? or are they metabolized by the mushroom when it colonizes the substrate?

Mushrooms don't 'soak up' toxins into the fruit bodies. The only stuff you really need to worry about are heavy metals and radiation - which fruits will absorb from the environment.  Basically, don't ever pick mushrooms around industrial sites, near the side of the road, or next to Chernobyl.

Would mushrooms "soak up" chemicals from black trash bags?

Essentially, no, although more aggressive species (like oysters) will break down plastic.

Has been actually proved that mushrooms carry heavy metals from contaminated substrates?
