Liberty Cap id UK
    #11312430 - 10/24/09 04:15 PM (8 years, 7 months ago)

I've been seeing a lot of shrooms looking like liberty caps on my walks. I read on a website that there is no shroom in the uk that resembles a liberty cap that is poisonous. Is this true? can i pick and eat without worry? Is there a bad dude in the UK that i should be specially aware of?

that is not true and 'look-alikes' doesn't really mean anything. For a noob a great many mushrooms could be 'look-alikes' to libs. Mycenas are just one example of mushrooms that can look similar to the untrained eye and contain pretty nasty chemicals.

So can i really put myself in danger in the uk, or just get an upset stomach? Surely there cannot be any seriously dangerous liberty cap lookalikes and if there is wtf do they look like?

why don't you just post a picture of your 'liberty caps' here and we'll tell you what they actually are.

The only toxic Mycena I know of is Mycena pura, which contains small amounts of muscarine. Edible according to some.

havent actually picked any to show you but it seems that if i got it wrong i aint going to die or anything. whats to stop me trying them? i realise that you have to be very careful in some countries but it seems that in the uk we are pretty fortunate in the fact that so long as the shroom strongly resembles a liberty cap it's almost certain to be safe.

I don't think just eating a mushroom because it resembles what you think an active should like is best practice irregardless of where you are.  This site is an excellent place to get your finds accurately ID'd, just get some pics on here and be on the safe side...even if its just going to save you hugging your toilet bowl and nothing more serious.
