Sounds like it should be fine, you might want to mist the top layer w/ a 15:1 h202/h20 mixture..

So, does anybody use this method to steralize peatmoss? Should I add some water to the peat or should I leave it dry?

sterilizing peat moss kills the beneficial bacteria. itll keep fine without sterilization. before casing with it, use an aluminum baking tray to cook it in the oven at no more than 160 degrees for 2-4 hours depending on how much you have. this is called pasteurization. you can pasteurize your casing soil and then store it in jars for later use or use it immediately.
