Wood from pet store...
    #1131053 - 12/11/02 04:37 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

Well i said my mom that i intended to buy wood pellets from the pet store near my house and she offered
herself to do so. Well the result was this bag:

its wood pellets for reptiles. It says that it is no harmful to the animals, even if they swallow it (100% natural) but it doesnt say what kind of wood it is. The color of the pellets is deep red to dark brown.

Does anyone have any experience with this thing, or should i toss it right away? (its 4 liters...)

What do you intend to grow on this?

It's probably cedar, it would help if you had a picture of the wood chips.

a) bark is not so good
b) red is not so good
Give it a try, but I would be very surprised if it works. You really want blonde hardwood chips.

http://www.zoomed.com/html/repti_bark.html

The woodloving psilocybe should grow on it, but there are better materials.

if it's pellets, and it don't say what kind of wood it is, then it's probably more than one kind of wood.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

Always keep cage clean and provide proper ventilation. Non?moving, stagnant water harbors gram negative bacteria, which can lead to fungal and bacterial infection!

High Anno!

u have mentioned a link, Mycoweb "Mushrooms in the Garden", where it says about Morchella: "Morels are often discovered in newly landscaped areas in fir bark mulch."

the repti bark i got is from fir trees. so i suppose it will work on morchella, right? i am waitin for some cultures to arrive.

BTW: Azurescens grow on "reptile bark", as u said. I will post a pic tommorrow if i find time...
