Liberty caps?
    #11308756 - 10/23/09 11:05 PM (8 years, 9 months ago)

Habitat:
In grass. Mainly was found near bushes and bush debris in little schools. Was slightly marshy field by a river which cows graze upon.

Gills:
Greyish brown to black. Younger specimens appear to have whitish edges.

Stem:
1-2" length, thin whitish stems. Quite straight. And firm - retains a straight shape whilst moist. Feels silky.

Cap:
1/8" - 1/2" diameter. Darkish brown colour drying to lighter greyish brown. Slightly conical but only very slight almost unnoticable to no pellicle. Flesh seems fairly fragile and breaks apart easily
Spore print color:
Black

Bruising:
None noticeable.

Other information:
Scent of the mushroom, anything else you think is important, large close-up pictures showing stem, cap and gills.

Yeah i think you're probably right. Just wishful thinking really. Kinda knew they weren't libs but literally these are all we seem to get around here! Hundreds of these little buggers but never found libs! Live near Brighton on the South Downs. Someone once told me libs don't like the chalky soil? Not sure if it's true but they certainly seem to not like something!

Are pan. spp. active? I think i once read they were but only like .1% Is this true? Anyone know?

Anyone ever had any luck around Brighton area with shrooms?

Cheers dudes

There are a few active pan. species. Yours are not. What area are you in?

Hmm. Not sure for your area. I would wait for someone that is familiar with your area to chime in on that. Out here the big Pan finds are Pan. cinctulus AKA Pan. subbalteatus. At least for NY.

are pan foes active at all does anyone know? been comparing these mushies to some pics on google image and think they must be pan foes rather than pan sphinctrinus. sphinc. seems to have a kind of frilled edge to the cap.
