I also found this one I need help identifying.

I made a separate post because this is a different mushroom I want to know about. It's orange in color and it hadn't fully opened, it had some white little thingies like snow on top of it. I found it at the same location where I found the Russula from the last post. I cut this one before taking pictures (will not do that again):

P.S. It looked like an orange at first sight (LoL!)

Habitat:
This mushroom was growing on leaves under pine trees in sandy terrain in suffolk county in new york, USA. Found it today October 23, 2009. I picked it from there in the woods.

Gills:
White gills spread out uniformly (see picture)

Stem:
4 inches long with solid stem, white and slippery.

Cap:
3 inch diameter with concave cap (downwards - still young). It's yellow/orange in color with white spots on top like light snow.

Spore print color:
Don't have one yet. Will edit post to add one tomorrow if I get no ID's tonight.

Other information:
Smells like regular portobello mushrooms at the supermarket.

Thank you very much for your help!

That looks to be an amanita spec., I just can't tell you which one. When picking the amanita spec. it is important to dig up the stipe and keep the base intact. This is very helpful in getting a positive id.

Also if you are hunting muscaria var. try to get pictures in its original state without cutting or cleaning it up. The stipes and base have many different characteristics with this species.

Yeah I think I over cut it. I was trying to get it down to size so it would dry a bit faster. This is my first time collecting mushrooms. I cut it and placed it on a paper towel sandwiched in between two dinner plates. It's let to dry by itself, hope I'm doing it right

Place it in front of a fan laying on paper. If you get an amanita you need to collect the base of the stem. Dig it up if you have to.

I will. There's another one just like this one but bigger that I saw growing in the same area, but left it there because it hasn't opened yet. It's huge. I'll take a pic tomorrow but I may not pick it till Monday when it's more mature. Post coming soon tomorrow  :mushroom2:
