sorry for the double post but when i do kill fifths it's an all day affair meaning i start around 12pm and end usually around midnight

I drink beer daily, often in the morning, and a couple at lunch always. Been drinking more and more over the years.I drink less when I smoke pot, but I don't like to smoke all day, every day any more. I've enjoyed drinking since I was 12 or 14 , still do 40 years later. Alcoholism (and drug addiction) is firmly rooted in my family. So I guess the answer to your question is Yes...:cheers:

It usually takes "hitting bottom" for a true alcoholic to quit drink.  Now, everyone has thier own subjective standard on what hitting bottom is.  For some it may be just realizing you have a physical and/or psychological addiction to alcohol.  Some people have to loose their driving licence or kill someone in a car.  Some loose family.  Some kill themselves because they no longer control their lives... alcohol does.  So thier are degrees of bottom.

First question you have to ask is: Can I control my use of alcohol and if not how it is harming my life?  Denial is the first issue to deal with so your answer to the first question may take some time to realize a truthful answer.  Finally, the next question you have to ask yourself is how low do you want to go?

That is my 2c

EDIT - I was a straight 5th or more a day drinker for several years.... many, many hard drinking years before I graduated to a 5th of straight whisky a day though.

Wow, damn Vinsue, 12-40?  Do you go any days with no beer? If you do, do you get ill?

My main poison was always beer too. I went on my fair share of hard liquor binges though. I started to get mildly physically addicted to hard liquor, I'd get the shakes. At that point, I had to give it up. I still drink it a couple days out of the week now though.

I'll sip a beer now and then, but i'm not an alcoholic. Weed fits my personality better...

I've seen it first hand though, I'm a musician- and I had a guitarist who was a total boozer. Let his drinking take prioriy over the music and had to be replaced before going out on tour. The guy missed out on traveling the country playing music to sit around and be an unproductive drunk.

That guy had a lot of potential... I can't say the alcohol is entirely to blame though

Fortunately,(or unfortunately) I drink every day.. I have got 'nervous' sometimes on a Sat. night if I might run out after the store closes. I rarely get falling down, dick in the dirt drunk, and I try hard to avoid any stronger spirits that tend to turn me into an arrogant ,dangerous asshole. Growing old doesn't help much, either...:shrug: . . . :peace:

I don't drink often, but I just heard some news about a friend who does did.

My dad's girlfriend of about ten years died earlier today due to liver complications caused by alcohol. She was one of the heaviest drinkers I've ever known. She was only 50. She looked 65.
