Help! Pinning without 100% colonization
    #11306809 - 10/23/09 02:59 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Hey guys
This is my first time growing, and I have pinning on two jars that are not 100% colonized. I have read somewhere that when jars are pinning it means the mycelium has colonized it's maximum, but I would like some input as to what to do.

Here are pictures (one of each jar)

are you sure that they aren't 100% colonized?  That verm layer at the top is just a contam barrier and is not supposed to colonize.

How long since inoculation?

if it is the sides that are not colonized then there is a contam that is why they are fruiting it is to drop spores to save its self. cut of uncolonized part and fruit by its self if you want but i would not put with others beacuse they may catch something from it

The stuff that isn't colonized is probably patches of verm that might have dried out. Ordinarily, if you have a BRF Cake that starts pinning when it's no where near 100% colonization, it means your cake is contaminated.

Go ahead and birth that sucker. Looks 100% to me.

Here, this better illustrates the cause of my concern:

*That is the same jar, just slightly turned
**Take note to the size of the mushroom growing on the first picture.

like said just cut off that uncolonized part and rince real well and put in the FC away from others and keep an eye on it. it will probly be fine though.
