Job Hunting
    #11304956 - 10/23/09 10:43 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

Well, I am about to have my associates in BA, so I need to start looking for some entry level/temp position. Just something to get my foot into the door. My question to all of you who have had more job searching experience than me, is where did you look for your current job?

Did you drive around and apply? Was it the newspaper? Was it the internet? (If so, what website). What else would you recommend using?

I have been looking on craigslist, monster, and careerbuilder, but most of the posting online seem to be scams.
I have also been networking a lot, but to no avail.

well, what kind of job are you looking for? different industries tend to advertise in different ways. of course, everyone advertises on the www.

Does your local paper have a website w/ a Classified section? I'd check there befoire I waste my time on monster or CL.

Look for placement agencies that specialize in your industry. manpower and the other giant temp placement-mills have only gotten me jobs beneath my education and ability.

If your interested in a specific company, go to the website and check if they are hiring. they all have job opportunity links. even if their not, just email them your resume. let em know your interested.

Recruitment agencies in your chosen area are a good way - they get money for getting you hired!

Websites are actually not that good untl you are experienced - the fact anyone can see them from anywhere makes it easy to apply. Try good old walking round and handing in CVs to places near where you want to be!

Also make sure your CV is well written, well presented, and to the point - no waffle!

Curriculum Vitae.  it's just a fancy term for a resume for someone with an academic or scientific background.
