yea yea i know im a noob but im hopeing you guys can steer me in the right way to a feild guide that is gona work in my area sacramento ca im tottally new to this and i kinda want to keep on living so i figure a good book might help it seems the season is here and the only society for mushroom hunters seems to be in sf and i just cant afford to get there. any one know a group that meets to find edibal mushrooms in sac i want some morels never tried them and i knida feel cheated cant spend much money but i canwork hard to get to my goals im not stupid just ignorant anyknolage apreciated thanx.

Welcome to the Shroomery, nacho. Your best bet would be two field guides. Mushrooms Demystified and Psilocybin Mushrooms of the World. Both can be purchased here.
And there should be a local mushroom club near you. Try Googling it.

You want to get Mushrooms Demystified by David Arora. David lives in Santa Cruz, so the book is especially useful for Northern CA and the PNW. It is definitely the best book for our area.

I go to the Mycological Society of San Francisco meets almost every month. They are fun. You should check it out some time if you happen to be in the area.
Also, there is a Fungus Fair on December 5th and 6th. I don't know if it will be in SF or the East Bay, but it is always a lot of fun and you are bound to run into some Shroomerites!

If you are not able to make it, you should know that just about every Mushroom Club does at least one Fungus Fair a year.
