Almost fully colonized! Some questions about the FC
    #11301572 - 10/22/09 08:20 PM (8 years, 10 months ago)

Hey guys. My first attempt at growing has been a decent success. After a little over two weeks I'm at about 85-90% on one and 50% on two others.
Once it's fully colonized I've read that I should take it out of the 86 degree temp and down to normal room temp (76 degrees) for one week before putting it into the fruiting chamber.

I need some clarification on a couple issues though.

1. What size plastic container should I buy?
My next batch will be about 10 jars.. I'll have no more than 10 jars at one time in the FC. I was checking out some sterelite containers earlier and saw that 32qt's were on sale. Would this suffice or should I opt for something bigger?

2.  I don't have an electric screwdriver. What's the best way to drill in the proper holes without one?

I'm also going to go to the store and get a 6000k daylight bulb. How far from the FC should the bulb be? I'll have it on a 12/12 cycle.

Doing the shotgun method BTW.. perlite, spraying 3 times a day and fanning multiple times a day.

Thanks for the help!!!

I'd highly recommend getting a power drill cuz its a bitch to make all those holes(maybe a friend has one?) just get a normal sized plastic tote(clear for light). congrats!:sun:

What do you mean by "normal sized".
What would be optimal for 10 cakes? 32qt? 50qt?

Grab a screwdriver with a 1/4" thickness, set your stovetop on high, and heat it up. Melt a hole in the plastic every 2 inches. It's a pain in the ass and takes a while, but it works.

Yeah, I should be alright making holes.

No one knows how many quarts a sterilite plastic container would be good for 10 cakes?

52 quart, you want room for the shrooms to grow and some good space.
