I was talking to a friend last night, he was concerned about having to leave for about 6 days in Dec. (20-26th) He informed me that he is birthing tommorow, and was wondering what the effects could be if the enviroment is left untended/unharvested during that time. He expects pinning to begin after a few days from now. (Hopefully not longer, although some pinning had begun in some jars.) Thanks in advance for your help.

Maybe your friend should have a friend (who knows about his shroomies) come over and give him basic instructions on how to take care of them..maybe even bring someone new into the shroomy world! Make sure your friend can trust the person they choose, though...

Yeah that is a good idea, however my friends, friends are all leaving for break as well (College town). And so he has no one in this town he feels he can trust in this myco world. I also forgot to mention that he has a bubbler set on a timer for six times throughout the day and the temps are a constant 70F.

you could suggest to your friend to stall them, had a similar situation last year, the jars were put in a bag and sealed and put into the crisper of the fridge, left jars like that for over 8 days, came back and cased them no probs.

20th-26th...I'll be gone too...cruise to mexico...anyway...i'd say you should be fine...if you think they're going to mature before you get back what you need is an alarm for the day you want them to harvest, a spring, a wide blade, a sleeping hamster in a ball, a rock, and a latch for the blade and spring. the alarm will wake the hamster, causing the rock (balanced on top of his ball) to fall on the latch and relase the blade (which is placed just above level with the top of the cake)and it will spring out and chop those suckers off. it will work. really.

Isam, a good idea but the only prob is I fear the hamster would not chop them but worse, EAT THEM. So I guess that one is scrapped.
Nope, there is no chance of stalling them, they are being cold shocked and dunked as we speak right now. Will it be a big deal if they were left a little bit longer then maturity? I guess the worst that can happen is for contams to set in a whipe everything out. =( how sad that would be!!

Not a prob,
As I mentioned above he has an air bubbler set for 6 times a day. Also holes with polyfill. And the light is on a timer too.

Well, I'd be concerned about the humidity, especially if they're going to be cakes and not casings. They'll likely be dried out when he gets back if they're not misted (i.e., the drip shield in the terrarium), even if there's a generous amount of moistened perlite beneath (that's my experience anyway; I find it tough to keep the humidity even close to ideal in the terrarium even with routine sparayings, let alone if they weren't misted for a week). He might get away with it if he cases them, I think that's the best course of action.
