I think I belive in it...Its like a way of not worring about what has happend. But accepting it. So if I lose a friend or something anfd they don't wanna be friends with me, and I didn't really do anything on my part that caused it, I would say "I guess thats how its meant to be, nothing I can do will change that, so let it be!"
Its like not worring and mourning over what has happened. But accept it because it was meant to happen. If it was something you could of done better, you learnt for next time!
So let it be! Let it be! Let it be! Good ol Beatles

If fate existed, what would be the point of free will?

perhaps since there are so many lifeforms with so many different "fates," they require free will to stay out of eachother's ways (or get in eachother's ways..) to ensure that their "fate" is carried out?
just a random thought on how the two would be connected... who really knows though hehe

I think of fate. But It serves absolutely no purpose in managing my affect or situations in life. I completely ignore it. I Have no choice but to believe I am in control of my own future.

I don't see why fate and free will can't coexist.

I think that if it existed, it would only be a minor form of fate.
I know I can do what I want to when I want to. If fate existed, then I could quit my job and never worry about money again because fate will take me where I need to go? This is one reason I don't think it works.

i figure Fate is completely decided. maybe not decided, but once things are set in motion, they will happen a certain way, and no other. I dont believe in fate with a lower case f tho. If people are born, they are going toexperience situations that were already predetermined by something/someone/physics which will in turn set this person on a course that will cause this person to react in a given manner when they find themselves experiencing the next situation did i make sense?

Minor Fate? What the fuck is that supposed to mean? Whatever...
It is a necessary duality. The only compromise is to realize that patterns (inherently meaningless) often emerge and we give them meaning for one reason or another (sometimes it's completely arbitrary). Free will exists. I experience it. I choose not to think things (that I experience) are illusions until I am given proof that they are so. It's counterproductive... like solipsism.
Note that I'm not arguing that cause and effect plays a role in this universe (is that "minor fate"?). I'm only saying that conscious beings do not behave like billiard balls. If the concept of "fate" is used as a thought experiment or focusing method, that's different... but KNOW that it's different... then try and understand WHY it is different.

Mabye there is fate in certian situations. But not really like "you are born and your fate is to be a doctor at age 35 etc"
But in situations. Like if I don't do a project, my fate will be bad marks. I work out and eat good, my fate will be better health. Stuff like that.

Ah, but you don't, so how can you know?

Maybe fate determines the course of our lives while at the same time we determine the course of fate.
Just a thought

Think of it this way. This is a commonly used metaphor for life. Life is like river. Don't think of it as yourself floating down this river being pushed inexorably forward. Think of it as you are the river itself.

A minor fate means that you had no choice but to react to that statement, but your exact wording was your free will. Make sense?

Because I know homless people esist.
Maybe many "homeless people" didn't "let the reigns go" completely, rather most of them try and bring comfort through the use of highly addictive drugs as a form of escapism.
When the phrase "trust in fate" is used, I associate this with faith. And I think faith does have power. Call it the irrational, feminine side of me, but I do. I think that if you have enough faith in "fate" or "God"(whatever name you wish to label It), then things will happen as they are supposed to, because the flow will be more pure... When you surrender, life will happen more harmoniously, I think.
