Just Curious
    #1129524 - 12/10/02 05:51 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I just innoculated a myco bag with Gt spores and have since put in a cooler with a fish tank heater in a bucket of water to keep humidity and temperature up. Temps is between 83-86F and humidity is 90-95%. Once up to temp the cooler system only needs heat for one to two hours a day. I am curious, if I leave the bag in the cooler for three weeks while on christmas break with a timer to control the heat and rH, if this setup will work. The conditions are right, but will the lack of human involvement and the possibility that something may go wrong affect anything.

It should work...lack of human interaction can actually be a good thing   I know that I look at my jars daily and that's probably not good for the sterility of the whole operation

Well, considering that Myco-Bags were made with lack of human involvement in mind, you should be fine. If I were you I'd lower the temperature to around 80 (the temp inside the bag will be a bit higher) and that rH is not needed. The bag should produce enough humidity for itself. As long as you keep the rH above 50-60% you should be fine.

On another note: I have had no results from Myco-Bag use, but I know of many who have. Be patient, and good luck.

I guess I have another quick question will two small six inch square casings with either straw/poo or 50/50+ casing significantly alter my yield or should I let the myco bag do all the work. And why is my avator not showing up?

When it comes to casings, I am clueless (I'm fairly new also), so I suggest you wait for one of the experts to stop by and put in their two cents

Believe me im no pro but i think you should stick with what you pay for. Alot of contamination comes from human interferance. You're avatar isn't showing probably because the link you put down may be wrong try doing it again.

Just make sure that the water does not evaporite out of the container that the fish tank heater is in while you are gone. Other than that it is probably better that you aren't there.

Thank you everyone for your help, but im still interested in making casings from the mycobag. Anyone with previous experience or anyone who just wants to share their two cents, can you please let me know if the casing will have better and more abundant fruits.
