ID Request
    #11293946 - 10/21/09 05:55 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

This was found on a southern Oregon coastal trail.  The trail was through thick pine trees.  The mushroom was growing out of pine needles and old wood chips.  My roommate brought this home today after her walk.  It was on the counter when I got home and that's all the information she left.

It smells very familiar but I can't place it.  That smell makes me want to eat it. Maybe a bit to young to I'd but give it a look if you would.  Thanks

It's an Agaricus species, something around Agaricus augustus.  Does it smell almondy?

I don't know the name but don't eat it without an ID. I think I have seen a similar looking one which was poisonous, and those gills look white.

That is exactly what it smells like.  Exactly like almond extract.  I worked in a bakery for a year and smelt almond extract all the time.  It was driving me crazy not being able to place it.  It was so familiar.  Okay I'm gonna stop smelling this thing now.

I'm making cabbage soup tonight.  I wonder if this will go good in it.  Much love for the help landsnorkler and Alan!

The chemical you smell is benzaldehyde, which is a difficult chemical to purchase because it is easy to turn it into MDMA or methamphetamine.

Before you ask the answer is Yes, you have to say the whole thing and yes you have to say it every time, and yes that includes the "a pimp named" part.
