It has no soul ?
    #11290348 - 10/21/09 05:27 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I was walking my dog.
I got this idea that i should let him lead the way..
i would follow him.

So he went , naturally, to this yard where the people own a dog of their own.
There was a dog bowl, a tree and a chain..
he was sniffing around while i was standing there hoping that the people inside their house wouldn't notice me.
We started walking away and my dog suddenly notices something that had been there the whole time !
A scarecrowish type thing with its arms spread and a hat and all..
not very tall though.. around the height of a 7 yr old child maybe..

it was there the whole time.. and until my dog finally noticed its full appearance , resembling a human , he did nothing.
It was when he stepped right in front of it and saw its full form that he started growling very aggressively.

He walked away and when passing the bank, he walked up to a human getting money from the atm.

My dog is very friendly...
interacts with all animals and humans peacefully.. and hes never really scared to approach any living being.

Why was he afraid of the halloween decoration ?

I think that as with any animal, when the dog became startled (which could have happened for any number of reasons)it became aggressive in a defensive manner. This is the same concept as making sure to make noise when in the woods to not startle a bear. they get extra aggressive when startled. The dog may have seen the figure but once it was startled it became aggressive.my 2 cents (sense?)

so.. you're basically saying that the full appearance of the object , triggered in his brain a memory of what the human looks like , and then, contrary to his senses which would have notified him of a presence , somebody was there !
and he was startled and became aggressive as a response to the fear ,caused by surprise ?

i was always under the assumption that generally animals could almost instinctively sense other living things (through a combination of all their senses) and that thus it was unlikely for your dog to mistake something for another human. Perhaps he was just confused as it wasn't really sure what the hell the halloween decoration was (how often would be come across a similar object?) and as a result he reacted aggressively out of fear of the unknown.

Dogs are like people and are commonly afraid of what they don't understand?

It might be the fur coat, but she is still evil.
