Transfered from dishes
    #11290824 - 10/21/09 09:27 AM (14 years, 5 months ago)

So as your working up to an isolate what do ppl do with the transfered from dishes?  I have been cutting out sectors of rhizo growth and using them to inoculate sub with.  I hate wasting anything, and im just going to toss the plate so why not get some use from the dishes.  Is this normal do other ppl do this or am i just being really cheap?

no this time i tried something different, i filled them with water and nuked them for about five min, then wiped with alcohol... but the ones i did that to have no signs of growth yet and are building up yellow around the inside... so don't think it worked to well...

The plastic petris are cheap enough that I don't worry about this. But maybe you could make wind chimes out of them:shrug:

I dont think I explained myself well enough.  This is what I am asking.  After you have cut the transfer from the dish you still have myc on the dish.  What I want to know is if ppl cut wedges from it and use it to inoculate sub?  Is there any issues with doing this?  I realize that these are not iso's but if you select rhizo growth this IMO is still better than an MS inoculation.  Am I the only person that does this?  Is there anything wrong with doing this?

No your not.. I steadily do this. I think the only risk is opening the dish multiple times (if doing it at different times) increases contam risk.. but I do it all the time. My bags spawn just fine with it (so far).
