ID Request - Blue Mushroom
    #11288214 - 10/20/09 09:48 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Sorry, folks, I know this isn't the best ID request...  I really didn't think that I'd be asking for an ID at the time, but as I was going through some of my pictures from today's outing I decided I am curious enough to ask...

Habitat:
I was checking one of my older Cyan patches and found now caramel caps there.  Instead, a bunch of these guys were growing in their place.  So...  Habitat = WOOD MULCH.  Near Pines and Alders in the PNW.

Gills:
Blue and attached

Stem:
Stems were about 2 inches tall on average.  I'd say about 1/4 inch thick and pretty hardy/meaty/dense.  As for stem color...  They were a slightly lighter blue than the rest of the specimen.

Cap:
Caps were a good 2-3 inches wide, blue and very heavy (dense/meaty/hardy).  Not slimy at all.

Spore print color:
I ended up leaving these in the field because I wasn't planning on asking for an ID, so no spore print on these guys.  Just hoping someone might be able to tell me what the heck they are.

Bruising:
No noticeable bruising (yes, I beat one up a little and waited to see).

Other information:
I took a whiff to see if there was a noticeable smell to them and they didn't really have one.  If anything they smelled 'woodsy' like their environment.

Cheers!

Lactarius indigo does not grow in the PNW.

Looks a lot like Clitocybe odora.

Thanks for correcting me.

Since Clitocybe odora smells markedly like anise, could it be Stropharia pseudocyanea?

Huh...  Ok, I'll give it another shot next time I go out there.
