Aussie Lactarius deliciosus
    #11289101 - 10/21/09 01:33 AM (8 years, 1 month ago)

While out and about I came across a stand of Pinus radiata so I decided to stop the car and have a look. I am happy I did...

Amanita muscaria

And now the Saffron milk caps, Lactarius deliciosus

Note the carrot-coloured sap:

What I collected:

These were all found in Victoria, Australia.

Not yet, thinking about it tonight. I had a nibble and they taste nice but not much flavour. Why's that?

They are nice to find but they are not very good for eating.  No flavor and bad/crumbly texture.

I can't comment yet because I've never eaten them but when I took a nibble it did seem a bit crumbly. I think I'll just fry in butter with maybe some toasted pine nuts and parsley, served on toasted sourdough. Then I will get back with a verdict.

@Shroomeup, I'm happy to find anything before the full force of Summer kicks in.

These things weren't too bad and I would be happy to have them again.

Saffron milk caps with parsley, butter, double cream and pine nuts served on steak with a side of vegetables nom nom..
