whats going on here???????? I think it is going to eat the bag
    #11287834 - 10/20/09 09:17 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

Check out this hericium.  It has been colonizing for a wile on a back shelf when I noticed it had a fruit forming I moved it to a clean fruiting chamber.  From my7 minimal experience I have always had them grow out nice and round.  this one has bumps and spikes??? and part of it is slightly pink.  normally for me this would be the beginning of the end but it seems strond and healthy and happy.  has anyone seen this or had this happen???  any suggestions??

thanks

I have had Lion's mane form pink clusters when it's young. This seems fairly common and the pink fades with age. As far as the round bumps and spikes....well, it's probably just going through those awkward teenage days...

it is in a shotgun box, with like a foot of perlite,  spraying the box everyday not the mushroom

TAKE IT OUT AND SEE IF IT LOOKS DIFFERENT .. LEAVE IT in its bag. that will act like a terrarium. it will keep the stuff moist but not the fruit itself. u can mist it a couple times a day to help the fruit get moist.

check out these new pics

now most of this thing is a beautiful pink,  looks like a snowflake the older part is starting to yellow and darken but new stuff seems to grow on top of it.

I dont know if it is right, I think it needs more oxygen and an starting to take it out at night but i am afraid of it drying out..

Anyways it looks cool

Take it out of the terrarium.  Lion's mane needs a bit more fresh air than you'll get in a shotgun.  In fact, I've grown it in the open air before with nothing more than a humidifier running in the room.  It looks like it could also use brighter light.

ok it has been out side for a couple days I am starting to worry it seems to be turning brown.  there is one section that is pink though .  check it out

it is always shaded on a staircase under some passion fruit vines and gets the area misted probably about twice a day. if is certainly not as pink as it was

Looks like it's sporulating now, probably due to age of the fruits.  Try to get better conditions from the start on your next grow.

In my neighbourhood, nobody leaves dowelled and waxed shitake logs around to be ...found.

I would have found them.

Nice grows tho,

i wiped everything down with alcohol and placed a cereal bowl over it with a small crack for air on the edge.  I probably dont need it but it was pretty wet.  this morning it looked like it dropped some good spores I am going to leave it for a wile longer
