I went to the local feedtsore to aske for rye berrries or rye grains and they said they have" berries" is that it??? He didint say RYE berries so just wondering if they r the same kind? For some1 who has never used grains or berries, do ya think that it is easier to use for a first timer to grains and berries or is it more difficult and time consuming? Any hints ya can give that may help down the road , that isnt mentioned in the faq forum?
Thx,

If ya haven't already, I suggest strongly that you read and start growing with the pf tek. If you've done that, I suggest millet instead of rye for bulk spawn. I've had far fewer contam and moisture problems using millet instead of rye.
You should be able to find white millet at that same feed store if they have a section for birds. I get mine at the feed store for $4.99 for 10lbs. It's good quality straight white millet.

How do soft wheat compare to hard red?
Regardign rye berries- as has been said. health food stores will order them for you in bulk like 25 - 50 pounds. Millet is much harder in my experince but that is becuase it is not univerally put together the same way ie some is coated with antifungal shit which is obviously no good. I think people go to larger grain seed like wheat and rye because it is usually not treated and the variouse teks that use it don't have to monkey around with letting you know all the variances....if that makes any sense....

my friend has used both and he feels hands down that rye berries are by far the best choice.
