Trazodone: Trip-neutralizer?

Someone help me make this clear...

A fellow shroomery member (forgot who) informed me in a different thread, that Trazodone is a potent anti-psychotic. I am unable to find any info online that confirms this. He had claimed that 100mg completely ended his trip on T Bridgesii I think it was, and that it'd work on other psychedelics too.

I understand that psilocin produces agonistic effects at the 5-HT2a, 5-HT2c, and 5-HT1a serotonin receptors. I also know Trazodone acts as a 5-HT2a and 5-HT2c antagonist.

However, I'm assuming the resulting trip from psilocin is due to much more than the mimicking of certain serotonin transmitters... (I'm no scientist, anyone know this for sure?)

So it seems there's certainly a potential for Trazodone to eliminate the effects of a trip, but does anyone know for sure??? :confused:

Trazadone is a anti depressant not psychotic.

Some people use it for sleep so I could see that it would work for some people to come down on a trip but for instance it doesn't work on me so for some it would work for some it wouldnt...If you're tripping hard enough its probably not going to work regardless.

Okay. I know its an antidepressant, I take it for sleep. And I know its not classified as an antipsychotic, but I'm wondering if anyone knows from experience if it will bring a trip down to any degree.

I said it would help some people and since it helps you sleep then a higher dose would probably bring you down to some extent but isn't going to end your trip...

Benzos will bring your trip down though...Anti psychotics can completely end a trip.

I am the one that said that.  Yes, Trazodone is an anti-depressant and anti-anxiety drug that is a very potent antagonist of the 5-HT2a and 5-HT2c receptors.  I can only tell you that I was peaking on a shitload of Bridgesii and 100mg of Trazodone completely stopped the trip in about 20 minutes.  This makes sense in that it's action is exactly opposite of what psychedelics do.  By the way, the 5-HT receptors are the ones that serotonin and psychedelics bind to.... I also read that though the classic psychedelics are serotonergic hallucinogens, their actions also depend somewhat on dopamine receptors.....  the degree that different receptors are affected is what colors the trip between LSD, Psilocybin, and LSD.  In any even Trazodone is so powerful anatagonistic at the 5-HT2 receptors that it makes perfect sense that it is a trip killer.

I was tripping out of my little fucking mind and it worked.  I'd try it again since I have shitloads of Trazodone laying around, but I don't want to ruin a good trip. :tongue2:

In the name of Shroomery Science, I will dedicate my brain to science and do 1.5 feet of Bridgesii, and at hour 6 take 100mg of Trazodone and report in real time the effects.  If anyone wants me to do this experiment with good LSD or Shrooms, please send me a tripping specimen and I will do it and verify the effect.  :tongue2::cool::grin:

Interesting... Starfirex let me know if you end up using it again during a trip for whatever reason. I'd like to know if that kind of result is consistent. I probably wont be tripping till thanksgiving or maybe in a few weeks if my damn jars finish up. I might to some experimenting with it.
