Misandry?
    #11285997 - 10/20/09 07:41 PM (8 years, 3 months ago)

I watched a couple movies this weekend with a friend of mine I haven't seen in a long time.  We watched Titanic (Hers), and The Illusionist (Mine).

I didn't realize it at the time, but both of the movies share one thing in common... they both feature a Rich woman who leave their Fiances` for poor men.
It is a heavily romanticized concept in Hollywood.

I didn't pay it much mind at the time, but she (my friend) was almost cheering, both times in each movie, when the woman left the man, and found it romantic and heart-warming.
She definitely had a 'That bastard had it coming' attitude.

I started thinking about it later on... (earlier today actually) and it really poses the question....

Why does deception & infidelity (cheating on your fiance) enjoy such a romantic reputation in Hollywood?  And as such, why would this be something to cheer about for the common woman/man?
Sure, we all know the men depicted in these movies were somewhat oppressive... but were they really that bad to the point where a person should disrespect them; humiliate them, and deceive them?  Does it justify the old two wrongs make a right idea?
Are we looking at some form of Misandry here?

people have a habit to cheer for the underdog, in this case the poorer men (who are also incidentally nicer)

i guess that force overpowers one's distaste for infidelity

Well, I broke my ankle two weeks ago, so I was in bed on pain killers anyway, so I didn't care what she put on... I was just glad someone was willing to forfeit their Saturday night of fun and hang out with me instead.... 'cause I doubt I'd do that for anyone else, heh.

And yeah, Miss Andry is a cool gal.

Cheers

Very True.  I suppose I didn't add that weight to the equation.
